Objective

Transforming a monumental school building in downtown Amsterdam to a Christian hostel and shelter location.

Solution

Delivering over 200 sleep pods and bespoke furniture in public areas. Creating a welcoming space for homeless people in the winter. Giving them privacy and a hotel experience, which led to a significant decrease in trouble for everyone involved, compared to other shelter locations in Amsterdam. In summer Shelter City Amsterdam is interested out to tourists.

Results

  • Modern Christian sanctuary right in the middle of Amsterdam, a great place for peace and sleep
  • 40% more bed capacity with sleep pods instead of bunk beds, and significantly improved guest satisfaction
  • Lifting the standard for shelter with great results, allowing homeless people to stay during wintertime

Client Feedback

We are grateful for the wonderful collaboration with The Pods Factory, which helped renovate our Sheltercity Amsterdam location. By using sleeping pods, we have created more sleeping capacity, in our own style and design. Every guest has privacy and personal facilities. The result is a beautiful hostel with comfortable beds, offering peace and personal space.

In addition to being a hostel, we also serve as a shelter for the homeless during the winter. THDV collaborates with the Salvation Army in this regard. The sleeping pods are sturdy and, above all, low-stimulus, making them perfectly suitable for this target group. Together, we have raised the standard of (night) shelter here. We are currently also looking at other locations.
